Following the successful delivery of a £1.7 million refurbishment of Oswestry College’s specialist training spaces the year prior, Matrix was proudly reappointed to deliver a full refit of the college’s refectory. The project required a complete rip-out and refurbishment, all undertaken within a live environment while students remained on campus.

Careful planning and phased working ensured minimal disruption to college life while enabling efficient progress throughout the programme. The design introduced warm timber tones, bespoke booth seating, contemporary lighting, and communal tables — transforming the space into a flexible, inclusive environment that reflects the evolving needs of modern education.

A unique aspect of this project was the bespoke joinery. Originally designed by a Swedish design house, the tables had extended lead times that risked delaying the project. Instead, our in-house joinery team replicated the design with meticulous attention to detail — saving the college both time and money without compromising on quality or style.
